This is further to Doha 5 on Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas which we covered in last post.

Janki Sita listened to sermons given by Arundhati with interest and appreciated wholeheartedly and bowed down at her feet reverentially. Shri Ram, the Graceful Lord, then asked permission of Muni Attri for going in to next forest and also prayed for always being favored and blessed by Muni; Shri Ram wished to be known as a servant who remains in service at all times and never be stopped from receiving love of Muni (here Shri Ram meant to convey that a servant is always loved because he attends to needs of master routinely, for a willing servant nearness to master is always assured).

Listening words of Shri Ram who is very thorough in understanding Dharma, the learned Muni spoke to Shri Ram affectionately and said, “Whose favors and grace is needed by all, be it Brahma, Shiv, Sankadik (group of Munis known as Sanakadik) and  those others who travel on path of deliverance, You are that O Ram, and all those who wish nothing have love for You. You are brother like to those who are deprived and helpless hence You have said these words. Now I know the wisdom of Lakshmi that she covets and remembers You only and had shunned all divine personalities (Lakshmi born after churning of ocean had wooed Ram in form of Vishnu ignoring other gods). It is natural for someone who has no equal to be such kind and gentle. In what manner may I agree to let You go, tell me because You know of what goes in hearts of all as an indweller.”

With above words Muni, otherwise a patient person, looked at Shri Ram and had  tears flow out of his eyes and bodily became thrilled and shaky due to affection.

While Muni’s eyes were lovingly concentrated on the lotus face of the Lord with his body charged with emotion and love, he reflected within, “I have had an occasion to see the Lord with my eyes who is known to be beyond mind, Gunas and not a subject of senses, what kind of Japa (chanting mantra or Lord’s name) or Tapa (austerities) I might have done to have this fortune. Surely through Japa, Yoga and following path of righteousness a seeker in service of Lord gets to achieve highest kind of Bhakti and that is what brings such fortune.” Tulsi says this is the reason for him to sing everyday the glories of Raghuveer Shri Ram by narrating the events in His life and His actions which are very pious and pure.

The events that have spread the good name of Shri Ram all around are capable of removing the ill impact of Kaliyug and also subdues ones’ mind besides being source of immense pleasure; those who listen to what Shri Ram went on to accomplish in His life as Ramavatar, with attention and regard, do find that Shri Ram, the Lord, maintains a kind attitude towards them.

The present age is very difficult one because it is mired in callousness, in this age it is hard to keep on right side of Dharma, or to attain right kind of knowledge or to have an occasion and atmosphere to do Yoga and Japa hence it only proper for a wise person to forget any kind of help from any quarter or rely on any one or any thing  but only to concentrate on remembering and to be devoted to Shri Ram by chanting His name (while mother Vedic mantras need a lot of discipline and right way to chant for right results, Ram’s name requires nothing of this kind, just a devotional attitude is needed for it to give result to one who repeats this name of Lord).

We have now covered up to Doha 6 of Aranya Kand.
