Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

This is further to Doha 7 of Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas which we covered in last post.

Muni Sharbhang told Shri Ram, “O Gracious Raghuveer, You remain present in heart of Lord Shankar which is like Manas lake in purity like a royal swan and now kindly listen. I was about to leave for the abode of Viranchi i e Brahma but overheard through my ears someone saying that ‘Ram’ would be coming to this very forest in near future. This made me stay back and constantly look at the road leading here through out the day and night. Now seeing You here my heart is at rest. O Lord, the fact is that I have not been doing much by way of practices needed to reach You to have a glimpse of You but You have very kindly obliged me, a man, a Bhakta of poor means.

I am however not going to look at it as something done for just my sake, You have by this kind act of Yours only kept honor of Your own pledges,You are after all known to steal hearts of people (by Your immensely attractive form as Ram). Now I beseech You to remain here for the sake of me,a poor person of little means, till I have left my body to become one with You.”

With these words the Muni offered all his claim over the fruits of doing spiritual practices like Yoga, Yagna, Japa, Tapa and Vrutas (fasting and committed religious acts) to the Lord and asked for boon of having the Bhakti of the Lord (the tendency of devotion at all times and to love Him with all the attention) and got it.

Muni Sharbhanga then proceeded on to prepare a pyre and sat over it shedding all attachments (that tie one to the world of contradictions and keep him occupied with body centeric concerns).

Lastly Muni asked Ram, “O Lord, You have dark complexion like a cloud that is rich in water vapors (signifying that You are ready to shower Your graces at all times) and I wish You to stay in my heart along with Sita (the Bhakti incarnate) and younger brother Lakshman (the lord of dispassion) at all times but Yourself too in the Sagun-Ruup i e in Your avatar form with attributes like humans as Shri Ram (so that I may easily relate to you being a human as I can’t claim to have sufficient pool of spiritual practices in my account to claim to transcend and go beyond senses and know the all pervading, attributeless Lord of Universe).”

We have now covered up to Doha 8 of Aranya Kand.
