This is further to Doha 8 of Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Mans of Tulsidas which we covered in the last post.

Muni Sharbhang concluded his submission to the Lord Shri Ram and burned his body by igniting it with Yagagni (fire produced through Yogic action) and with grace of Shri Ram, the Lord, got established in Vaikuntth (the Lord’s abode). Muni did not get merged with the Lord because he had already asked for boon of enjoying Bhed-Bhakti (where the seeker wishes to remain a servant of the Lord and enjoy His company, in his after life too, the Lord’s form the same which appeals to the Bhakta the most).

The entire body of the Munis who were watching this felt, very very pleased in their hearts (for Mnuini Sharbhang had shown an extra-ordinary devotion to the Lord and achieved his ultimate objective right in His presence).

The Munis took this occasion to sing praises of Shri Ram and hailed Him as one who is rich in showing mercy towards the one surrendering totally and seeking refuge from.

(Here we must appreciate that Muni Sharbhang was no less profound in prescribed high practices as he did not need ordinary fire to light his pyre rather created the Yogic fire with his own power as a Yogic practitioner. He was humble enough not to proclaim his advanced state before the Lord and asked for His grace as Bhakta rather than go for liberation as a Gyaani.)

Later Shri Ram resumed His journey in to the forest and the Munis accompanied Him. Some distance ahead Shri Ram saw a mount of bones (of dead humans) and inquired of Munis what was it about feeling very very pitiful (for the dead souls). The Munis replied .” Lord, You already know it being able to see all and know of what’s in hearts and minds of people. However, we must tell what You want to know; these are bones of the a whole lot of Munis that were killed by the demons who wander in the night to eat their flesh.”

Listening to this gory account from the Munis, Raghuveer Shri Ram had tears flow out of his eyes. Shri Ram then and there raised His arm and took the vow of ridding the world of such demons and visited the ashrams of Munis settled around the place to personally assure them, thereby ending their worries.

We have now covered up to Doha 9 of Aranya Kand.
