This is further to Doha 12 of Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas which we covered in the last post.

While sitting in midst of Munis in the ashram Shri Ram told Muni Agastya, “O Master, there is nothing that needs to be concealed from you and you already know what is my purpose of coming deep in the forest hence I am not telling it in detail, O Taat (father like). My lord, I now beg you to enrich me with that wisdom with which I would be able to kill the tormentors of Munis.”

(Shri Ram here wished to honor the Rishi who had acquired all the knowledge and had digested it. Shri Ram here indicates that such people should always be consulted before launching any big program of action.)

The Muni smiled after listening what the Lord had said and replied, “O Lord, what makes you feel that I should be asked for such advice (Muni meant to convey that he knew that Shri Ram was the Supreme Lord of Universe and knew everything and had power to do whatever He wished).

“It is only on account of my remembering You with devotion that I have come know some aspects of Your glories (which none can claim to know all about).

“Your Maya of immense proportions has countless universes hanging here and there like a Umar (Udumbara) tree has many small fruits hanging. The Jeevas (beings), moving and non-moving, are like those small insects in side the fruits which remain without any awareness that there are other fruits also which have insects similarly.

“The element of time, dreadful and formidable, which eats away these fruit like universes routinely, is itself under Your total control and has fear of You (i e You rule over that time which eliminates the creation of most powerful Maya). You, the master of the gods which manage the worlds, now ask me like an ordinary person, isn’t it strange.”

Muni next prayed saying, “O Merciful One, I seek this boon from You that you stay in my heart along with Bhagwati Sita and younger brother Lakshman; I wish to have profound Bhakti (devotion to You), dispassion and company of saints and my affection towards Your lotus feet should be continuous without a breach.

“Though You the Brahman (the Supreme Lord), without any divisions and limitless in dimensions (hence to know You entirely is impossible) yet the great saints know You by means of experiencing facets of You; that’s how nurse and keep their devotional thoughts about You. I also know You in this way and explain to my disciples as such but always come back to admiring Your qualified form (as Ramavatar and other avatars).

“Raghuraj,You are known to always encourage and exalt Your devoted servants and therefore You have taken trouble to ask me. O Lord, I would now tell, as You want me to, that there is one heart stealing but holy spot known as ‘Panchvati’ (spot that has five types of trees) but lies in Dandak forest (this forest is infested by the demons and is field of there activity). Lord, let it become sacred again by Your presence and end its suffering due to curse (of Guru Shukracharya, the Guru of demons).

“The Superior one among Raghus, You may, by living there, help and oblige all the Munis showing Your mercy.”

Shri Ram took note of the command of Muni and proceeded towards that point and reached near it shortly. In the precincts of the place, Lord met with Jatau, the king of vultures, and developed a relationship of love with it and thereafter settled in a hut near the banks of river Godavari.

We have now covered up to Doha 13 of Aranya kand.
