This is further to Doha 19 of Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas which we covered in the last post.

The horrifying arrows discharged by Shri Ram went flying like hissing serpents. Shri Ram, now angered, sent forth volley of arrows and the so called brave among the demons turned back when attacked by very deadly arrows. Khar Dooshan and third brother Trishira got enraged seeing this and announced that those who will run away from the battle ground would be killed by them. With no option in hand the fleeing fighters decided to forget death and fight. Now confronting, they began to strike with variety of weapons. Seeing that enemy force was also now hell bent to fight, the Lord now readied His bow and sent forth a volley of bigger arrows which made the deadly demons, who had already considered themselves  dead, fall to ground after getting cut in to pieces. There heads, torsos, arms and legs fell here and there on the ground. They used to shriek after being hit by arrows and their bodies used to fall like uprooted mountain. Though cut into hundred pieces some of the braves among them used to employ tricks to rise up, it was sight of flying arms and heads and headless bodies running. At this stage the cruel birds and animals that eat dead meat began to rattle teeth.

The battle ground now presented a gory sight and it became a playground for ghosts, devils, spirits and vultures. The three demon brothers noted that their side was now badly annihilated and as a last resort they together threw weapons in direction of Shri Ram. Shri Ram, within seconds, foiled all attempts of theirs averting the weapons used by them and struck each of the warring leaders with ten arrows each but they too employed Mayic tricks resurrecting themselves. This induced some fear in heart of gods seeing 14000 souls of dead demons against one, the king of Awadh. The Lord, the controller of Maya, finding gods fearful enacted a magic like play and the members in the opposite fighting team saw each other as Ram and fought each other, they eventually dropped dead.

While they were loudly and repeatedly calling out ‘Ram Ram’ their souls left bodies and achieved the Nirvana Pada (the seat of salvation), Shri Ram, the merciful one, did it in seconds employing a trick that proved good for these devilish entities.

(Remembering the Lord by taking His name at the time of death liberates even the evil persons; if the subject of last thought is  the Lord only which is possible to be fixed on the Lord with a form, with greater ease, then the Lord ensures that the Jeeva escapes the cycle of death and rebirth.)

The gods became happy after the fighting stopped and played drums in the sky and all of them sung Stuti (praises for happiness of Lord) and returned to their own abodes in specific vehicles of their own.

We have now covered up to Doha 20 of Aranya Kand.
