Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 27 of Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

After Raghuveer Shri Ram killed Mareech who had become partner of Ravan in his evil design, He promptly turned back to go where Sita was; Shri Ram looked attractive holding His bow in hand and a quiver tied to His waist (because His readiness with arms to kill the villainous leaves a sense of relief in hearts of His Bhaktas).

When Sita heard desperate loud call (of Mareech) mistaking it for Shri Ram’s call for Lakshman asking help, she was badly shaken with fear thinking of possibility of a mishap concerning Shri Ram and she, therefore, asked Lakshman to rush to help his brother who might be in grave danger. At this Lakshman smiled and said, “O Mother, listen patiently. Who can wipe out the entire creation by merely moving His eye-brow, would that one ever be falling in a perilous situation, even in a dream.”

Lakshman’s response did not placate the fear of Sita and she then spoke some hurtful sentences which swayed the heart of Lakshman; it had mostly to do with Lord’s will working at the mind of Lakshman who otherwise would never have gone against instructions of the Lord to constantly keep Sita under protection. Lakshman then decided to entrust safety of Sita to the lord of the forest and to the protectors of the surrounding quarters and leave for where moon like Shri Ram, Ravan and illusory deer were be found.

This was the moment when Ravan noticed that the place where Sita was present was no more under protection of Lakshman. He put on guise like that of Yati (hermit) and came near Sita. Isn’t it interesting that some one under whose spell of fear, the gods as well as the demons do not have sound sleep in the nights and nor restfully have their meals during the days, is moving forward, carefully glancing here and there, for stealing like a dog  moves to pick and run.

Kaakbhushundi told Garuda, “O Chief of birds, it is like this that whenever one steps on a an undesirable path leading to vices, he loses shine on his face and also loses his intellectual strength as well as loses his physical strength totally.”

Ravan then told many made up stories of interest; he tried to win over Sita talking in diplomatic ways, tried to instill fear and also expressed his love for her. Sita listened to him for a while and then told, “Listen, as Yati you might well be seen as master, but you have spoken words that only a man of bad intentions would speak.”

When Ravan noted that Sita was now aware of his intention, he showed  his real self and also told his name which made Sita cringe with fear. At this delicate moment Sita summoned her courage and said, “Just wait for a while, you rascal, the Lord of mine is about to come back. You are thinking like a little hare wanting to wed a lioness. O Demon King, has your end time come, would you now lose life in hands of the god of death.”

Listening to her fearless speech, the ten-headed Ravan displayed his anger while inside his heart he appreciated Sita and bowed down mentally at her feet.

Ravan, now enraged, picked Sita and made her sit in his Rath (chariot) and took to skies (as his chariot was capable of flying) with a sense of urgency but fear made it hard for him to drive.

We have now covered up to Doha 28 of Aranya Kand.
