Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

This is further to Doha 30 of Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas which we covered in the last post.

The vulture, though badly hurt, patiently spoke to Shri Ram, “Listen, Ram, You are known to be the one who can break the cycle of being reborn in this painful world and I believe it. The ten-headed demon has brought me to this condition and that villain only has taken away the daughter of King Janak. She was crying vehemently and was taken away towards south like fish-hawk carries its prey.

“I am alive only in hope of having Your ‘darshan’ (glimpse) and now when I have You before me I want to leave this body, O the Merciful Lord.”

Shri Ram addressing him respectfully (because Jatayu once had developed a relationship with King Dashrath as friend) said, ” O Taat (my father like), you might very well keep your body (reminding him that Shri Ram could do it).” Bringing a faint smile to his face Jatayu replied, “just when the name of whom is uttered by the lips of a dying person, even if he be a mean, degraded or evil person, the liberation is a foregone conclusion which Vedas confirm with aplomb, the very same Lord is present before my eyes to be appraised in all aspects of beauty and glory, why then, my Master, would I care to keep my body now (which might be exposed to further troubles of this mundane world).”

The devotion and understanding of Jatayu moistened the core of eyes of Raghuraj Shri Ram and He said, “Taat, its your Karma which has provided you with this glorious and fruitful end.”

(Its the conscious effort for saving Sita that provided him the opportunity to leave the world in the best manner possible though he was fated to live an unholy life as a vulture and never would have been entitled for such a glorious and fruitful end. This means that if the circumstances of birth deny one to lead a pious life, the welcome change of fate can be brought about by self-less service of man-kind which is service of the Lord Himself.)

Shri Ram told further, “Who constantly keep the interest of others at heart, they find nothing that is beyond their  reach. O Taat, you may now leave this body and go to stay in my own permanent home (which is beyond the heaven i e much more desirable than a temporary stay in heaven). You now have all your desires fulfilled (to long for Lord’s ‘darshn’ and to be able to have it with full understanding ends in total satisfaction of all desires i e nothing remains to be desired further), what more can I give therefore.

“Now while you are going where you will see my father too, I beseech you to not divulge of the happenings here, if I am Ram (the brave son of my brave father) the ten-headed demon (Ravan) will relate it all to him personally accompanied by his entire family (as Shri Ram intended to end all the demonic tendencies represented but Ravan along with the tendencies that support it for bringing about regime that is called ‘Ram-Rajya’)”

We have now covered up to Doha 31 of Aranya Kand.
