गीध देह तजि धरि हरि रुपा। भूषन बहु पट पीत अनूपा।।
स्याम गात बिसाल भुज चारी। अस्तुति करत नयन भरि बारी।।

This is further to Doha 31 of Aranya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas which we covered in the last post.

The vulture now left his body and appeared in form of Shri Hari (signifying his oneness with the Supreme Lord Vishnu), he was now richly ornamented while putting on yellow attire of very attractive kind, his body bearing dark complexion had four arms and he began to sing praises of Lord Shri Ram while tears filled his eyes.

छं0-जय राम रूप अनूप निर्गुन सगुन गुन प्रेरक सही।
दससीस बाहु प्रचंड खंडन चंड सर मंडन मही।।
पाथोद गात सरोज मुख राजीव आयत लोचनं।
नित नौमि रामु कृपाल बाहु बिसाल भव भय मोचनं।।1।।

What his heart knew now, Jatayu verbalized it saying, “Victory to You, O Ram, You have unworldly and attractive form while basically You are formless and without attributes but have appeared on earth as Sagun (with form having qualities i e as avatar); the Gunas do not affect You and are in fact governed by You (through Maya).

“Your are mighty enough to destroy the ten-headed demon Ravan whose arms are very strong and You are capable of littering his severed heads on ground.

“You body has color like that of water rich cloud, Your face is like a lotus and Your wide eyes also are lotus like.

“I bow down to You all the while, O Ram, You are gracious and Your long arms are always ready to help which enables one to drop all worldly fears.”

गोबिंद गोपर द्वंद्वहर बिग्यानघन धरनीधरं।।
जे राम मंत्र जपंत संत अनंत जन मन रंजनं।
नित नौमि राम अकाम प्रिय कामादि खल दल गंजनं।।2।

“Your might has no limit, You are since ever and are unborn; You remain unmanifested and are not perceivable through senses (as the Supreme Lord of Universe).

“You watch the senses as ‘atman’ in body but are not Yourself a subject of sense; conflicts and confusion are ended by You only (when one surrenders to You and You show mercy), You are the cosmic consciousness and provide the earth its existence and hold it in place.

“O Endless Lord, those saintly people who repeat Your name ‘Ram’ as mantra, You delight their heart. I also unwaveringly surrender to that Shri Ram who holds all those as dear to His heart who have stopped having wants and desores while its only You who kills the vile tendencies (that result in unwanted desires).

जेहि श्रुति निरंजन ब्रह्म ब्यापक बिरज अज कहि गावहीं।।
करि ध्यान ग्यान बिराग जोग अनेक मुनि जेहि पावहीं।।
सो प्रगट करुना कंद सोभा बृंद अग जग मोहई।
मम हृदय पंकज भृंग अंग अनंग बहु छबि सोहई।।3।।

“Who is referred by Vedas as Niranjan (spotless,flawless) Brahman, as all pervading, as one without Raga (attachment) and as unborn. Who is attained by Munis by doing Dhyan (contemplation), by gaining Gyan (knowledge), by having Vairagya (dispassion) and by practicing Yoga (making effort to unite with the Lord as prescribed by masters), that very abundantly merciful Lord, immensely charming and attractive and capable of alluring the entire world, is now manifest in person here itself. I have now captured him in my heart with His limbs looking charming to me like many limbless lords (numerous gods of love i e Kaamdevs) like a bee captured in lotus.

जो अगम सुगम सुभाव निर्मल असम सम सीतल सदा।
पस्यंति जं जोगी जतन करि करत मन गो बस सदा।।
सो राम रमा निवास संतत दास बस त्रिभुवन धनी।
मम उर बसउ सो समन संसृति जासु कीरति पावनी।।
दो0-अबिरल भगति मागि बर गीध गयउ हरिधाम।
तेहि की क्रिया जथोचित निज कर कीन्ही राम।।32।।

“Who is inaccessible (to those whose minds and hearts are not yet pure) and is easily available also (to those who have become pure in heart and mind), Who is straight in dealings and pure in behavior, Who remains inclined to help the devotees but is otherwise neutral and who is always very cool and composed at all times; Whom the Yogis do get to see and know putting untiring effort in practices that enable them to have control over mind and senses, that Shri Ram, the master of all the three Lokas (worlds) who resides in heart of Sita, the avatar of Rama and in whose heart She resides at all times, Who remains under control and approach of the devotees and servants all the time. I wish that very Lord Ram to remain in my heart too, whose saga of sacred and glorious activities can end the cycle of being born in the world again and again.”

This is how Jatayu, the vulture, asked for the boon of unbroken devotion at feet of the Lord and finally left for the abode of Lord Hari; Shri Ram later performed Jatayu’s last rites as was befitting for him (i e performed rites that a son does for his father).

We have now covered up to Doha 32 of Aranya Kand.
