अति प्रसन्न रघुनाथहि जानी। पुनि नारद बोले मृदु बानी।।
राम जबहिं प्रेरेउ निज माया। मोहेहु मोहि सुनहु रघुराया।।
तब बिबाह मैं चाहउँ कीन्हा। प्रभु केहि कारन करै न दीन्हा।।
सुनु मुनि तोहि कहउँ सहरोसा। भजहिं जे मोहि तजि सकल भरोसा।।
करउँ सदा तिन्ह कै रखवारी। जिमि बालक राखइ महतारी।।
गह सिसु बच्छ अनल अहि धाई। तहँ राखइ जननी अरगाई।।
प्रौढ़ भएँ तेहि सुत पर माता। प्रीति करइ नहिं पाछिलि बाता।।
मोरे प्रौढ़ तनय सम ग्यानी। बालक सुत सम दास अमानी।।
जनहि मोर बल निज बल ताही। दुहु कहँ काम क्रोध रिपु आही।।
यह बिचारि पंडित मोहि भजहीं। पाएहुँ ग्यान भगति नहिं तजहीं।।
दो0-काम क्रोध लोभादि मद प्रबल मोह कै धारि।
तिन्ह महँ अति दारुन दुखद मायारूपी नारि।।43।।

Narad knew now that Shri Ram was quite pleased at that moment hence he further spoke in soft sweet words again, “O Ram, when You motivated me through Your Maya and then so bedumbed me, O Raghuraj, that I wished to get married; Lord, why then You did not let me get married.

Shri Ram replied to Narad saying, “Listen, O Muni, I will tell you it all; those who worship and remember continuously without any kind of dependence on any other factor or person, I commit also then to keep them safe and out of any possible trouble in the same way as a mother looks after safety of her child. When the child, who is so dear to her, attempts to touch fire or to catch a snake, she rushes to keep the child away from it. When that child of her’s grows up to become an adult, she still loves the him but not in the similar way as earlier when the child was of tender age.

“I consider the Gyaanis (the ones who have acquired knowledge about me through study of scriptures etc) as My grown up children but the egoless Bhaktas (devotees and servants) remain dear to Me as young innocent children. Bhaktas consider that their protection is solely ensured by Me and whatever strength they have is sourced out of Me while the Gyanis whom I take to be grown ups depend on their own acquired knowledge about Me and other things in course of their lives to remain away from wrong path and resulting trouble. The lustful desires and anger that comes when obstacles come in way of fulfillment of desires, these and such other faults are enemy of both alike in reality.

“Those who have thorough understanding in this manner, such more progressed people even after getting endowed with rich doses of real knowledge, do not shun to practicing Bhakti realizing that My protection is more dependable.

“It is true also that passionate desires, anger, greed and egotism etc form the army that pushes one in to state of delusion and ignorance but when these get connected with woman who is known to be incarnation of Maya itself, the troubles get enhanced making one suffer more intensely.”

(The Lord meant to say here that those who are totally devoted to the Lord if they happen to desire the company of a woman will necessarily have to do things that please her, they will have family to take care, will have to be more social and work harder for a living etc; all these multifarious activities will create a cow-web that would make it difficult for him to break free and have enough in terms of time and peace to practice devotion towards the Lord. Cessation of responsibility for other beings and reduction of physical activity is necessary ingredient for sincere devotion towards the Lord, one who has decided to tread on such a path should refrain from expansion of his world of interests and commitments.)

सुनि मुनि कह पुरान श्रुति संता। मोह बिपिन कहुँ नारि बसंता।।
जप तप नेम जलाश्रय झारी। होइ ग्रीषम सोषइ सब नारी।।
काम क्रोध मद मत्सर भेका। इन्हहि हरषप्रद बरषा एका।।
दुर्बासना कुमुद समुदाई। तिन्ह कहँ सरद सदा सुखदाई।।
धर्म सकल सरसीरुह बृंदा। होइ हिम तिन्हहि दहइ सुख मंदा।।
पुनि ममता जवास बहुताई। पलुहइ नारि सिसिर रितु पाई।।
पाप उलूक निकर सुखकारी। नारि निबिड़ रजनी अँधिआरी।।
बुधि बल सील सत्य सब मीना। बनसी सम त्रिय कहहिं प्रबीना।।
दो0-अवगुन मूल सूलप्रद प्रमदा सब दुख खानि।
ताते कीन्ह निवारन मुनि मैं यह जियँ जानि।।44।।

Shri Ram, to further explain to Muni, said, “O Muni, listen, it is mentioned in Puranas and Vedas as well as saints tell it too that woman is like springtime for the growth of forest of bewilderment and blindness; lake formed of the water of religious practices like Japa (muttering lord’s name), Tapa (austerities) and observance of right routine etc gets dried up in hot season that comes with company of a woman; the same one works like rain for the frogs of desire, anger, intoxication and jealousy, the same one works like autumn as favorable season for the lilies of unsavory desires, the same one works like winter for the demise of lotus like righteousness, the same one works like season after winters for the growth of weeds like sense of false ownership and possession, the same one is like the night of intense darkness when the owls of sins feel encouraged. The fishes in shape of intelligence,strength, civility and truthfulness etc. become victims when sweet sound of flute in shape of woman attracts them, so say the wise and experienced.

“In the end, company of a woman, the great intoxicating influence,is at the root of all bad qualities and therefore is very problematic and is big source of miseries; Muni, I kept you away from her for these very reasons.”

(Lord Shri Ram here does not in any way wishes to condemn women, He has through out His presence on earth as Ram shown great respect for the women and mostly honored them. He has only emphasized that such people who have chosen the path of devotion shunning all world should not get tempted to have company of a woman because this weakness of theirs will drag in to the same kind of cesspool that they so painstakingly came out of. Narad had become victim of such momentary desire for a woman who was in fact unreal, as a true devotee of Lord, he had to be saved from meeting a wrong fate. Maya, the feminine side of the Lord and also not independent of the Lord, provides the womb of creation and sustains the creation but it is also the beguiling force, woman’s role should be seen in the same way, the question of good or bad should not arise here.)
