We covered up to Doha 7 of Kishkindha Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

After giving an philosophical answer to his wife, Bali, a person having extraordinarily bloated ego, went ahead considering the opponent Sugreev like just a blade of grass. Both then engaged in a bout while Bali kept on badgering and intimidating Sugreev and hit a solid blow making big fear inducing sound.

Sugreev who had always feared his brother, could no longer stay in fight, bewildered and dismayed he ran back to Shri Ram; he felt the impact of blow like he was struck by Vajra, the weapon of Lord Indra. He told Shri Ram, “O Gracious Raghuveer, didn’t I tell you earlier that Bali in not my brother rather is my death.”

Shri Ram then told Sigreev, “Both you brothers have a similar form (Lord here meant to tell Sugreev that both of you have similar tendencies), therefore I find it hard to identify him and kill (Lord also meant that in spite of my saying that Bali will surely be killed by me, you failed to keep faith in that and ran away). Then the Lord touched the body of Sugreev by His kind hand which drew away all pain from it and made it strong and hard; besides Lord also put a garland round Sugreev’s neck (for purpose of identifying) and sent him forth after giving him fresh big dose of strength (Sugreev had now become more qualified to invoke grace of the Lord by running to seek His shelter when he felt great pain and threat to life while Bali still had his arrogance at its peak; now the two belonged to different categories and not remain similar any more).

The two brothers once again fought using various techniques to defeat the other while Raghuraj Shri Ram watched them fight from a distance hiding behind a tree (in the same way as the Supreme Lord while invisible to us keeps an eye on what we do).

Sugreev tried in many ways to defeat Bali using tricks and all the strength at his command but could not get over his inherent fear and hence felt defeated in his own heart itself (without being practically defeated). When Shri Ram saw Sugreev losing this fight too due to his own weakness, Shri Ram hit Bali with an arrow right in the middle of his heart (Lord saves the ones who surrender to him though they might have some weaknesses and hits the oppressor aiming at his heart which might very well change his heart too when faced with sure death and breathing last).

We have now covered up to Doha 8 of Kishkindha Kand.
