II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 17 of Kishkindha Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

Shri Ram lastly broached with Lakshman the subject of Sita’s disappearance and urgency of this matter,He said, “Taat (beloved younger person), the rainy season is over (on account of which we had to wait) and the good season (fit for expeditions) has arrived; we haven’t had any inkling about where Sita might be (i e no news about her has traveled to us so far). Once I know the whereabouts of Sita, it would be within seconds that I will bring her back, even if it be a fight with the Kaal (the time, which is able to see end of every life). If really she is alive,I will not spare any effort to bring her back.

“I had entrusted Sugreev to begin search of Sita (as soon as its possible for sending out teams) but he seems to have forgotten my cause; may be its because he has got back his kingdom, its treasury, its capital and his woman (Lord meant to point out that whenever the troubles get over and desired things become available, the promises made with Almighty Lord are soon forgotten). I must kill him with the same arrow with which I killed Bali but only tomorrow (indicating that Lord gives enough rope to mend ways and not instantly kills the defaulting servants of His).”

Lord Shiv told Parvati, “Uma, the Lord whose mercy makes people forgo their vile tendencies, should it ever be the thought that He would resort to anger in any way (i e the Lord even if it seems that He has been overtaken by anger hence is harming us is not so, His mercy remains at work even when such is the impression). This aspect of the Lord is revealed to the Munis (who have philosophised to understand it) or to the those who have enriched themselves with ultimate knowledge and is also seen plainly by those who have total devotion for the feet of the lord.”

Lakshman however thought that the Lord was angry and upset at the behavior of Sugreev hence readied his bow and arrow to act out the Lord’s will himself. Shri Ram, ever so merciful and kind, then made Lakshman understand that any kind of extreme step is not needed to bring the one deviated from the right path but inducing a little bit of fear in him will be enough and he will see what is the demand of duty (this is very much our own understanding as ordinary people, we tend to stray when enjoying life but then some events bring us back to senses).

We have now covered up to Doha 18 of Kishkindha Kand.
