नाइ चरन सिरु कह कर जोरी। नाथ मोहि कछु नाहिन खोरी।।
अतिसय प्रबल देव तब माया। छूटइ राम करहु जौं दाया।।
बिषय बस्य सुर नर मुनि स्वामी। मैं पावँर पसु कपि अति कामी।।
नारि नयन सर जाहि न लागा। घोर क्रोध तम निसि जो जागा।।
लोभ पाँस जेहिं गर न बँधाया। सो नर तुम्ह समान रघुराया।।
यह गुन साधन तें नहिं होई। तुम्हरी कृपाँ पाव कोइ कोई।।
तब रघुपति बोले मुसकाई। तुम्ह प्रिय मोहि भरत जिमि भाई।।
अब सोइ जतनु करहु मन लाई। जेहि बिधि सीता कै सुधि पाई।।
दो0- एहि बिधि होत बतकही आए बानर जूथ।
नाना बरन सकल दिसि देखिअ कीस बरुथ।।21।।

We covered up to Doha 20 of Kishkindha Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

When Sugreev came face to face with Shri Ram, he first put his head down at the Lord’s feet and then promptly said, “Master, I must not be blamed (for being negligent in my duty unto you). Lord, the Maya of yours is too strong in its influence. O Ram, it spares only those for whom You have merciful stance. All including gods, the humans and the Munis among them, happen to fall prey to attraction of objects of sense gratification, Master, I am but a money, just a poor animal and therefore have such tendencies in great abundance.

“Who can skip the seductive glance of a female, who can keep awake in the dark night of intense anger (i e can keep balance when gripped by extreme anger) and who is not tied by rope of greed (i e who can escape the desire for more and more of something of pleasure) are only to be taken as equal to You, O Raghuraj. I know also that such virtuousness is not possible to be attained by own efforts and only a few who have good fortune of having Your grace showered on them can have that.”

At this point Shri Ram smiled and interjected, “O Brother, You are as dear to me as Bharat. Now collect your mind and strive in manner that will provide some clue about Sita (indicating that Bhakti enables one to have Lord’s grace and capacity to overcome weaknesses).”

(We might wonder here that why would Shri Ram have equal affection for Bharat and Sugreev. In reality Bharat and Sugreev both are same as Jeevas. Bharat could rise to the extent that people could hardly distinguish between him and the Lord Shri Ram just because he conquered his desires, his anger and his greed, so Sugreev was right in that respect. It’s also a fact that Bharat had been enjoying Lord’s favor, guidance and graces as younger brother since birth and had remained steadfast as he had developed ultimate devotion also. Shri Ram’s message was to reassure Sugreev that he lacked nothing and his humility and acceptance of shortcomings enabled him to have grace of the Lord and there was also an occasion for him to be guided by Shri Ram and total devotion would enable him to be as much pure as Bharat and therefore as dear to the Lord as Bharat. All of us therefore should have the courage to acknowledge our weaknesses, be humble, be ready to serve the Lord i e discover Sita (the personified Bhakti) and we too then will have capacity to overcome weaknesses and have benefit of grace of the Lord and be close to the Lord as much as Bharat.)

While Shri Ram and Sugreev were busy talking, Sugreev’s troops, consisting of monkeys, arrived there; they were of differents colors and thronged all sides and directions.
