We covered up to Doha 12 of Sundar Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

Sita now examined the ring closely and found it eye-catching; on it was engraved the most beautiful name ‘Ram’. She looked at it with astonishment and also recognized it and recalled that it belonged to her only and was given to Shri Ram. Mixed feelings agitated her heart and she thought of many things like Raghuraj Shri Ram is unconquerable, further this cant be duplicated by forgery so it must be the original one etc. At this stage Hanuman began to sweetly verbalizing virtues of Ramchandra. Hearing the virtues of the Lord from Hanuman her anxiety disappeared and she began to attentively divert this flow of words of Hanuman falling in her ears in to her heart (as the Ramkatha that tells virtues of the Lord surely is remedy for the heart afflicted by sorrows, of the devoted listener). Finding her totally absorbed in listening to him, Hanuman told the whole Katha from the very start of the period of arrival of Lord on earth as Shri Ram.

Sita then said, “Whoever has poured this nectar like Katha in my ears, why that kind fellow doesn’t appear before me.” When Hanuman saw that she was ready to receive him as someone friendly and related, he went near Sita; but Sita turned away while sitting, dismayed that it was a monkey who had come in front of her. Hanuman then said, “O Mother Janki, I am messenger of the Lord Shri Ram, I swear by Karunanidhan (meaning most merciful, an adjective with which Sita used to mostly address the Lord with, in private). Its me who has brought this ring which was given to me by Shri Ram as a token of identity, to be given to you.”

Sita, now convinced but not fully, questioned further, “how come there is  connection between a human and a monkey to such level of intimacy and trust?” In response to this Hanuman related the whole story of his meeting with Him and about His friendship with Sugreev later.

Sita affectionately listened to what Hanuman said in a lovely manner and she now had trust on Hanuman and was convinced that Hanuman was servant of the Lord who is an ocean of mercy (thinking that He not only was for the Humans but also for the non-human beings), in thought, words and deeds.

We have now covered up to Doha 13 of Sundar Kand.
