We covered up to Doha 17 of Sundar Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this further to it.

Once Sita gave permission to eat the fruits, bowing his head before Sita, Hanuman entered the orchard and began to eat fruits as well as damage and uproot them too as per the nature of the creed he belonged to (Hanuman might have thought to stop the supply of nourishment to demons). The host of guards who were there to protect the place were either killed by Hanuman or ran away crying for help (Hanuman must have thought to pick a fight deliberately to test their strength).

The soldiers who escaped from there informed Ravan that a big monkey had come and had destroyed the Ashok Vatika and that while eating fruits he had also uprooted the trees and many of the guards were crushed to death by him. This prompted Ravan to send many more warriors to deal with Hanuman. When Hanuman saw them coming he made big roaring sound and finished them all but some nearly dead went back crying. Ravan now took it as a challenging event and sent his own son Akshaykumar (‘akshay’ literally means indestructible) who went there accompanied by a big contingent of warriors. Hanuman confronted him holding a big tree as soon he saw Akshaykumar and after finishing him too Hanuman roared and boomed in a big way once again.

Rest of the warriors were either killed by Hanuman or were crushed to ground and smeared with dust. Only a few escaped the fury of Hanuman and informed Ravan saying, “Master, the monkey’s power is immense and matchless.”

We have now covered up to Doha 18 of Sundar Kand.
