We covered up to Doha 24 of Sundar Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

Giving vent to his feelings for Hanuman, Ravan further told, “When the monkey without a tail will go back to his master then may be this fool brings him back here. This will give me an occasion to see the substance and glory of the one whom the monkey had so profusely praised.”

Hanuman, the monkey, laughed within when he heard Ravan speak thus and concluded that the Goddess Saraswati has been kind to him (that Vibhishan and others uttered suitable words which Ravan valued, this must be taken as divine intervention only because none planned or practiced what happened there).

The demons began to carry out exactly what their master Ravan had just told (none cared to weigh the consequences, one man show has this kind of weakness). All available oil and Ghee (butter-oil) in city was collected without leaving a drop even and also the rags in the same manner and whole of it was used up in wrapping the tail. The monkey also playfully extended his tail. The citizens came from all over to watch the spectacle and rejoiced by kicking the monkey. They beat the drums and clapped in unison. They later took the monkey all around the city and then put fire to his tail. When Hanuman saw the flames of fire, he assumed quite small form instantly to wriggle out and taking a high jump he climbed the roof top of the golden mansion. This made the female demons cringe with fear.

Winds of all assumed kinds (forty-nine types) began to blow gustily as per will of Hari, the Lord; the monkey too made a big noise through his loud laugh and began to grow to touch the skies.

We have now covered up toDoha 25 of Sundar Kand.
