We covered up to Doha 40 of Sundar Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

There was a minister by name of Malyavant (he was an elder relative of Ravan through his mother) and was very insightful and intelligent, he felt very happy listening to words of wisdom coming from Vibhishan and said, “O Taat, your younger brother Vibhishan is like an outstanding ornament in your family and understands the crux of policy (at personal level as well as state level) hence you must take seriously what he has said and accept it.”

The words of Malyavant enraged Ravan and he shouted, “These two fools remain busy only in spelling out the greatness and superiority of my enemy, is there some one there to remove them out of my sight.” This was enough of a signal for Malyavant to leave the place and therefore he left for home. But Vibhishan being younger, once again came forward with hands folded to tell Ravan, “Master, wisdom and sense as well as stupidity and bad ideas form part of every one’s psyche, the Vedas and Puranas so speak; where there is wisdom and sense there awaits riches and prosperity but reversely where there is inept and nonsensical attitude ruling one’s heart the result ought to be as only bad and misfortune to be faced in the end.

“In your own heart the wrong kind of thinking has become embedded only to bring adversity to the fore; you have taken what is in your interest as some thing against your interest and therefore you now take those who love you and are affectionate towards you as enemies of yours. You have become obsessed with Sita who in fact is like the night of death for the family of demons.

“O Brother, I grab your feet and beg you to give respect to my affection for you; I only wish that return Sita back to Shri Ram so that no harm or hurt comes your way.”

(Here we can see that those who really love, particularly a family member, will never let harm come to the loved ones but there is limit to what they can do in absence of total lack of wisdom and appreciation at the other end.)

We have now covered up to Doha 40 of Sundar Kand.
