अस कहि करत दंडवत देखा। तुरत उठे प्रभु हरष बिसेषा।।
दीन बचन सुनि प्रभु मन भावा। भुज बिसाल गहि हृदयँ लगावा।।
अनुज सहित मिलि ढिग बैठारी। बोले बचन भगत भयहारी।।
कहु लंकेस सहित परिवारा। कुसल कुठाहर बास तुम्हारा।।
खल मंडलीं बसहु दिनु राती। सखा धरम निबहइ केहि भाँती।।
मैं जानउँ तुम्हारि सब रीती। अति नय निपुन न भाव अनीती।।
बरु भल बास नरक कर ताता। दुष्ट संग जनि देइ बिधाता।।
अब पद देखि कुसल रघुराया। जौं तुम्ह कीन्ह जानि जन दाया।।
दो0-तब लगि कुसल न जीव कहुँ सपनेहुँ मन बिश्राम।
जब लगि भजत न राम कहुँ सोक धाम तजि काम।।46।।

We covered up to Doha 46 of Sundar Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

Shri Ram noted the manner in which Vibhishan had lastly lay prostrate before him in spirit of total surrender and the Lord promptly got up with great delight in His heart (Lord always feels very happy when a Bhakta comes to Him; He happily saves the Bhakta from the afflictions of the worldly living should he come without pretensions).

The Lord appreciated what Vibhishan had said with total humility and related his woeful state of mind and therefore He extended His long arms to bring Vibhishan close to his bosom. After Lord met him to his entire satisfaction Himself and Lakshman too, He made Vibhishan sit close to Himself and said such words that would steal fear from heart of a Bhakta i e Vibhishan, “Tell, O King of Lanka (Lord addressed him as king because a as King of Lanka he would have no fear of Ravan and gave him idea about what was in store), your welfare and of your family, I know that you are placed in wrong surroundings. You have to live in the midst of villainous and crooked people, how then you are able to discharge obligations that your Dharma demands (Lord knew that the inability of noble people in carrying out Dharmic activities and responsibilities is the biggest discomforting feature of their stay in wrong places and among wrong people), O Friend.

“I know your ways of living and your manner totally (nothing misses the Lord’s attention ever), you are very much an expert in matters of policy and don’t like wrong approach regarding any thing at all. O Taat, to live in hell is better than having to spend time in company of the vile and wicked, may Vidhata forsake prescribing such hard luck to any one (Lord meant than company of bad people is sure to spoil the good people too and away from bad company one has chance to be liberated at some time).”

Vibhishan, up on listening to comforting words of the Lord, said, “Now its all well after having seen your feet, O Raghuraj Shri Ram, particularly when You have looked at me mercifully considering me as your own servant and devotee.

“The fact of the matter is that Jivas have no scope of being well and safe and have no chance of having rest and peace in their hearts until the time they remember and worship Ram (i e You who is the Lord Supreme Himself), leaving aside the desires and cravings which in reality are the abode of sorrows and troubles (i e the source of all conflict and troubles flows from mundane desires which never end and never get satisfied; leave apart the covetous and lustful desires, the ordinary desires also do not stop streaming up one after the other, fulfillment doesn’t break this cycle hence the mind is disturb always however when the mind is engaged in thought of Ram, the Lord, the generation of new desires slows and even stops).
