We covered up to Doha 48 in Sundar Kand of Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and this is further to it.

After giving Vibhishan valuable insight in to what the Lord looks for in a Bhakta, Shri Ram assured him saying, “Listen, O King of Lanka (suggesting Vibhishan that this was now fait accompli), you have all the virtues that I look for in a Bhakta; it is for this reason that you are most dear to Me (telling him that he wasn’t dear for he might extend help in fight with Ravan but for the virtues he has, in spirituality there is no give and take and Lord loves the virtuous devotees always).”

The words of Shri Ram made the groups of monkey shout slogans hailing abundantly merciful Lord. Vibhishan took Lord’s speech no lesser than nectar to be drunk by ears and never get satiated with it. He grabbed the lotus feet of the Lord time and again and he could not hold the flow of love for Shri Ram generated in his heart; the following words came out of his mouth perforce, “Listen O Lord of the whole creation, consisting of both the moving and stationery, animate and inanimate, You are the savior of the humble suitors, You are the one to know what goes on in every ones’ heart and mind. I had some traces of lust and other mundane desires lurking in my psyche but all of it is now totally washed away by the stream of love for the Lord. Now O kind Lord, be generous and entitle me to have the same Bhakti unto You that makes, one pure and pristine, and which is always most comforting and pleasing to the heart of the Lord Shiv.”

“So be it”, said the Shri Ram, the Lord, who is always steadfast and committed in the battlefield (i e always ready to erase the vile thoughts from the hearts of the humble seekers and servants). He then promptly asked for bringing water of the ocean; with it in hand Lord said, “My Friend, though you no more have any wishes or desires yet my Darshan (sight) never fails in granting whatever the world has to offer.” With these words Shri Ram anointed Vibhishan as the king by putting a Tilak (a mark on the forehead). When this happened there, the flowers rained from heavens above.

This is how Lord saved Vibhishan who was burning on account of fire of anger of Ravan and was therefore breathing heavy due to fear and gave him the kingdom of Lanka without threats from any quarters (because he had now protection of Lord Himself; what comes to us a grace of the Lord, no body can steal it from us).

This wealth (including the kingdom of Lanka) was grated by Lord Shiv to Ravan (as devotee) after Ravan offered in sacrifice his own head ten times (i e had committed to serve Lord Shiv with all five sense organs and five organs of actions as Guru and as preferred deity) and the same belonged to Vibhishan now which Raghunath Shri Ram handed him with slight hesitation that it is not a sufficient reward for the divine virtues possessed by Vibhibhan.

We have now covered up to Doha 49 of Sundar Kand.
