Sumantra further gave account of the activities of Shri Ram in exile saying, ” The night was spent by the two brothers at Shringverpur where Nishadraj Guha served them whole heartedly. In the morning Shri Ram asked for milk of banyan tree and both the brothers applied it to hairs and converted in to locks and arranged them like a crown over their heads. At this point friend of Shri Ram, Nishad Guha called a boat and Shri Ram first helped beloved Sita to get in to the boat and then Himself boarded it. Later Lakshman properly placed the bows & arrows and boarded after taking permission of Shri Ram. Watching me that I was under great distress, Shri Ram very patiently and in a cool manner gave me the message; he has said to convey to you, “O Taat (father like), kindly deliver my Pranam (respectful salutation) to my father and on my behalf grab his lotus feet many times, only later tell him not to have any worries on my account. The tracks and ways in to the jungles are enjoyable and safe for us, its all due to his good wishes, blessings and graces and most of all due to his noble deeds (Shri Ram meant to convey to King Dashrath that he being the monarch for a long time had earned a lot of goodwill of people far and wide hence there was no scope of any unfriendly encounters, for a king this is something very valuable and heartening to know).”
The minister further told the king, “Ram has said that He will be totally comfortable while going in to jungle by your grace and that when he carries out your command He will ensure to remain safe, He will come back to serve your feet immediately afterwards. He has asked me to fully satisfy and give comfort to His mothers and allay any fears that they might have (that Shri Ram will be fine and safe) and to touch their feet many times on his behalf with love and respect.”
Tuslidas says that in this manner Shri Ram wished for the invulnerability of the patron of Koushal and directed the minister to ensure it.
Then the minister told the king rest of the message of Shri Ram, “Shri Ram has asked to me tell Guru Vashishtth after serving his feet on his behalf that he must give only such kind of sermons that would keep you, the king of Ayodhya, from worrying for Him and being overly concerned for Him.”
(Here the noteworthy fact is that Shri Ram did not speak in His messages on behalf of Sita and Lakshman at and kept it personal. In such circumstances it is not right to speak on other’s behalf only then the value of message can be upheld. Sita and Lakshman had accompanied Shri Ram of their own will and they would only be able tell in their own words how they were feeling etc. These are the subtle points that make the character of Shri Ram distinct and perfect. We should be careful to observe such points. )

Sumantra told the rest of the message of Shri Ram for the king thus, “Shri Ram asked me to decently summon all the citizen and family members to convey unto them His humble request that they would only be helping Him and would ensure His own welfare by doing all that would keep their lord and His father happy. Shri Ram also wished me to advise Bharat on His behalf that after one is enthroned and holds the position of a king, he must not shun to follow the right policies and probity in any circumstance; he must nurse and nurture the subjects with all his efforts in practice, in commands and with dedication. He further wished me to tell Bharat that all mothers need be served knowing them as equally worthy of his attention. Shri Ram has asked Bharat to be a good brother of His by serving the father, the mothers and the saintly in such way that they don’t miss Him or have any lesser satisfaction in His absence.
“Lakshman however agitatingly said some harsh words but Shri Ram first stopped him from uttering such words and then besought me to refrain from saying a word of it to you and pressed me to vow for it for His own sake saying that it must be forgotten as some act of childishness on his part and should find no mention later.
“Sita also has sent her special regards and respects to you but before she could speak some thing she was overtaken by emotions and was at loss of words on that account, her eyes were tearful and was bodily thrilled to have had your memories back.”
(We see here that Shri Ram was aware that words can make and mar peace of somebody at a distance and there was in any case no substance in what Lakshman was telling hence he came forwards and ensured that his words don’t reverberate and complicate a delicate situation. Sumnatra also displayed his sense of duty by conveying all that he had known and seen but without unnecessarily repeating the words of Lakshman and conveyed to the king nicely that he may not want him to tell Lakshman’s words and put him in difficulty as he had committed to Shri Ram to not to. We can well see how a minister beautifully carried out his duty towards the king and the state and how a delicate situation was taken care of.)
